Here is a list of terms used in Protracer and by our teams.
Feel free to write to us if you want to add any! 🙏

Trip

A trip groups several routes and partners, organized into stages, and accompanied by instructions generated by you (descriptions, advice, practical information, etc.).
Once finalized, the trip is assigned to a traveler who can access it through their app. The trip’s content (texts, tracks, points of interest, PDFs, etc.) forms the user experience as it will be lived in the field.

Route or hike

A route or a hike corresponds to a GPX track enriched with content to assist the traveler on the ground. It may include:

  • POIs (points of interest),

  • direction instructions,

  • photos,

  • and interactive elements (quizzes, videos, images, etc.).

The route is the main guiding base for the traveler when launched from the app.

Track & GPX

A track is the geographical path of a route. It is usually in GPX format (GPS Exchange Format), a standard used to record routes, GPS points, and navigation data.

In the app, the track serves as the technical base for the route: it displays the itinerary on the map, guides the traveler step by step, and activates alerts or content linked to the GPS position.

Content Library

The content library is a collection of reusable POIs related to nature, history, or practical information, which can be added to many routes without requiring a personalized description.
For example: a tourist office or a water point.
This library saves time by offering standard and relevant content to enrich routes consistently.

POI (Point of Interest)

A POI is a geographical point added to a route to highlight a remarkable or useful place: natural attraction, monument, viewpoint, accommodation, service, etc.
Each POI can contain descriptive text, a photo, a video, or an external link. It enriches the traveler’s experience and can also include practical information.
